Women by Lagriffoul
Figure in soft porcelain biscuit, created by the sculptor Henri Lagriffoul around 1950 for the Manufacture de Sèvres. Marks of Sèvres and signature on the underside.
The sculpture is entirely handmade by our craftsmen in the workshops of the Manufacture. Nuances and variations may appear from one piece to another, making each one almost unique.
Henri-Albert Lagriffoul (1907-1981) ran a goldsmith workshop from an early age. This artistic and technical environment quickly awakened his sensitivity to the beauty of shapes and materials.
At the age of 17, he became a pupil of Paul Landowski, the sculptor of Christ the Redeemer in Rio, for whom he would always have great admiration.
His work is rooted in the great traditions of Greek, Egyptian, Romanesque and Gothic art. Between 1949 and 1955, he created four sculptures, a biscuit table centrepiece and the ornaments for two vases for the Manufacture de Sèvres.
