Étienne-Maurice Falconet
Sculpture created around 1770 for Sèvres by Étienne-Maurice Falconet. Stamped and pastillage porcelain biscuit. Ornamentation and pastillage are handcrafted, making the details of each piece unique. Sèvres marks in relief on the base.
The sculpture is entirely handmade by our craftsmen in the workshops of the Manufacture. Nuances and variations may appear from one piece to another, making each one almost unique.
Favart, at Voltaire’s request, wrote the libretto for the opéra-comique La Fée Urgèle. The plot features Sire Robert, who is judged by the Tribunal of Love for having stolen a kiss from the fairy Urgèle. Condemned to discover “what pleases women,” he receives the answer from an old woman in exchange for a promise of marriage; she then reveals herself to be the fairy Urgèle.
