Born in 1907 in Rouen, Josette Hébert-Coëffin is a French sculptor and medalist. In 1937, she was the first woman to be awarded a prize by the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation in New York and won a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition. In the same year, she began to create models for the Manufacture de Sèvres.
A rare woman sculptor at the Manufacture de Sèvres, Josette Hébert-Coëffin proved to be a very talented animal sculptor.

In order to get as close as possible to her animal subjects, Josette Hébert-Coëffin assiduously frequented the Jardin des Plantes in Paris, where she was able to meet a wide variety of birds and species of all kinds.
